QUESTION OF THE MONTH
Are you expecting 2007 be a stronger year than 2006 for your company?

Stay tuned!
The January/February 2007 issue of Manufacturing AUTOMATION will include:
Cover story: Automation Education and Training
- The 8th Annual Automation Training and Education Guide: A directory
of automation-specific education and training courses offered at
colleges and universities across Canada. Keep it as your reference
guide year round!
- Fighting to fit in: This article profiles Marla Robinson, a teacher
in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering technician programs at
Mohawk College. Robinson's inspiring story begins with her fight to
join the boys in the industrial arts program when she was in elementary
school in the early '70s. The story profiles her fight to fit into a
male-dominated industry, and her goal to encourage other young people,
including women, to join the skilled trades.
- Focus on Alberta: Alberta is doing more for apprenticeship training
and skills development per capita than any other province. We take a
look at what this resource-rich province is doing to promote and invest
in skilled trades.
- Implementing a talent strategy: With most baby boomers reaching
retirement age by 2020, a skilled trades shortage is hot on our heels.
How can manufacturers beat the looming talent crisis? A Deloitte
analyst discusses implementing an integrated talent management strategy
to attract and retain employees.
- Plus: The latest education trends, news and resources.
Feature: Top five in '07
What are the top technologies you should have on your plant floor in
2007? Last year, wireless technologies and robotics topped the list.
This year, we're asking a handful of industry experts to name the top
technologies and trends they think will make a difference in 2007 and
beyond. Don't miss what our experts have to say.
Feature: Test and Measurement
Papermaking is a demanding environment, with high temperatures and
humidity. When Honeywell wanted to develop a high-speed system to
remotely measure moisture throughout the papermaking process using
optical fibre sensor technology, it turned to OFS Specialty Photonics
division. The resulting technology provides moisture measurements with
no on-machine electronic components. We take a look at the solution.
Plus:
The latest news, appointment announcements and trends, as well as a
selection of the latest power supplies, test and measurement equipment,
interconnection devices, wire and cable products, and motion control
offerings.
