High school students face off at skills competition

Skills Ontario is hosting the qualifying competition for its annual Ontario Technological Skills Competition on Saturday, April 12. At colleges across the province, high school students will face off in the carpentry, welding, culinary arts, small powered equipment, TV and video production, and 2D character animation categories.

The qualifying competitions will simultaneously take place at seven colleges across Ontario and are subject to the same criteria at each location. Winners will advance to the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, running from May 5-7, 2014 in Waterloo. There they will have the opportunity to advance to the National and WorldSkills Competitions.

The qualifying competitions run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m at Canadore College, Education Centre and Commerce Court Campuses in North Bay; Confederation College in Thunder Bay; Fanshawe College in London; Georgian College’s Barrie and Midland campuses; Humber College’s North Campus in Toronto; Niagara College’s Welland and Niagara-on-the-lake campuses; and St. Lawrence College in Kingston.
