$9M reinvestment to renew AIME Global initiative on December 1

Nov. 24, 2014 – Industry minister James Moore today, on behalf of Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced a $9-million investment to the Yves Landry Foundation (YLF) to continue delivering its Achieving Innovation and Manufacturing Excellence (AIME) Global initiative. The renewed initiative, set to launch December 1, will help export-oriented manufacturers provide employee training for the adaptation of new technology, new processes or procedures that aim to increase productivity and competitiveness.

“This investment will help manufacturers do what they do best – innovate, grow, create jobs and compete globally,” said the government.

Specific training activities include the development of new engineering skills; new software training, hardware or other tools; and training to adopt and adapt new technologies, manufacturing methods or other business areas.

“Canada’s manufacturing industry is a cornerstone of our economy. The quality and range of products that come from Canada are second to none,” said Moore.

According to the government, the reinvestment will support about 200 manufacturers, create up to 1,100 new manufacturing jobs, maintain more than 1,000, and provide training for more than 6,900 workers.

“We are very grateful for the continued support from the Government of Canada. This reinvestment supports southern Ontario manufacturers to undertake training or skills upgrading that will support innovation at the shop floor level, where it is needed most. By strengthening our labour force, we are better able to compete in the global marketplace,” continued Karyn Brearley, Yves Landry Foundation executive director.

AIME Global provides between 25 to 50 per cent of training costs up to a maximum of $50,000 per project. Each business is required to provide at least the matching amount of funds towards the completion of the project.
