Jul. 22, 2016 – Motion Industries — a distributor of maintenance, repair, and operation replacement parts and a wholly owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company — has broken ground on an expanded distribution centre (DC) near Dallas, Texas.

Scheduled to open March 2017, the new facility will offer 156,000 sq. ft. and will house roughly 50,000 SKUs. As well, a two-story office will include offices for the distribution centre offices and the Southwest division, retail space, and a showcase area for visitors.

The company says the build shop’s current offerings of fluid power conversion, gearbox assembly, cut rails and shafting, and valve assembly will be transferred from the current distribution centre to the new facility.

“The new facility will provide excellent proximity for our current market and employee base,” said Joe Limbaugh, Motion Industries vice-president, operations. “The larger space will allow us to grow our industrial supply segment, and adequately fill customer demand in this region. As well, Motion’s 5-star processes and technologies will be implemented as part of the new design, which will accelerate our speed to market.”

The site is less than half a mile from a major highway and is close to both of the areas’s major airports, noted the company in a statement.

“Our external customers in this region will hopefully benefit from our improved and expanded inventories, which will be available under one roof and reduce freight costs,” added Dan Krska, who will manage the facility.

Motion Industries says it plans to add jobs to “fulfill the anticipated need for additional material handling employees.”

Meanwhile in Canada, Motion Industries operates distribution centres in Edmonton, Alta., and Lachine, Que.
