Southwire acquires United Copper Industries

Sept. 21, 2016 – Southwire Company says it is expanding its manufacturing capabilities in its core building wire products segment with its acquisition of United Copper Industries.

The move will also enhance Southwire’s geographical footprint, it says, “increasing the ability to respond favourably to customer growth in key markets.”

United Copper is the third largest manufacturer of building wire in the United States, offering a range of copper building wire products and metal clad cables. Its 450,000-square-foot facility in Denton, Texas, is comprised of sales and support resources, a copper rod mill, a manufacturing plant and distribution resources. Southwire says it “plans to fully integrate this campus into Southwire’s existing operations so that the campus will serve  as a strategically-located facility with opportunities for long-term operations, expansion and increased capacity.”

“This acquisition supports all three of Southwire’s key strategic goals: to build organizational capability, drive operational excellence and accelerate growth,” said Rich Stinson, Southwire president and CEO. “We will extend our company’s position in our core building wire products as we grow a generationally sustainable organization.”

Southwire Company is a North American wire and cable manufacturer, producing a range of products including building wire and cable, metal-clad cable, portable and electronic cord products, utility products, OEM wire products and engineered products.
