b_200_0_16777215_0___images_stories_2009_dec09_film.jpgOntario is supporting economic growth in Belleville, Ont., by investing in a manufacturing facility's expansion.

Sigma Stretch Film of Canada Co. will receive $655,276 through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund to install state-of-the-art production line equipment and complete building retrofits. The provincial funding is part of a total investment by Sigma Stretch Film of Canada of approximately $4.4 million that will create 10 new positions over the next two years.

The investment will allow the company to double its silage film production capacity and access new markets in South America while expanding exports to Asia and Europe. Silage film, which is made from polyethylene, is typically used to secure goods to a pallet, or by farmers to secure bales of hay.

The Belleville facility will also become the first in North America to house such a high-tech production line for silage film manufacturing.

Partnering with business is a key component of the government's five-point economic plan to grow the economy. To date, the fund has committed over $12.8 million to 33 announced projects representing a total project investment of $83 million.
