FireChek thermal shutoffs boast improved fire safety

Jan. 18, 2016 – FM-approved FireChek thermal shutoffs from Assured Automation with resettable memory shape alloy can be used to shut down a pneumatic control system when a nearby fire occurs, or when the ambient temperature reaches 135 F, 150 F, or 165 F.

When the FireChek senses excessive heat from a nearby fire, it closes the air supply line preventing the air from feeding the fire, explains the company, while simultaneously venting the spring return actuator to allow the return to fail-safe. The FireChek triggers, securing pneumatically operated process line valves in their fail-safe position for both on/off and throttling applications, it says. Because FireChek responds to heat, not flame, it claims to offer dramatically improved protection compared with conventional plastic tubing burn-through. The FireChek is available in three different configurations: FireChek; FireChek with Quick Exhaust; and FireChek PLUS Pilot Valves.
