MASC 2009 set to be bigger and better

TORONTO, Ont. – Last year’s Health and Safety Canada conference featured the launch of the first-ever Machine Automation Safety Congress (MASC), a joint initiative by Canadian Occupational Safety (COS) magazine, Manufacturing AUTOMATION magazine, and new online resource SaferMachines.com. This year’s MASC 2009 pavilion will be even bigger and better, with a new centralized location.
COS magazine and Manufacturing AUTOMATION magazine will also be hosting
sessions at the event to discuss machine safety laws and technology.
On the side of the law, a panel moderated by COS magazine editor
Mari-Len De Guzman, will explore the legal obligations of machine
safety. Renowned industry experts, including Cheryl Edwards, a partner
at Heinan Blaikie, Wayne DeL’Orme, with the Ministry of Labour, and
Simon Fridlyand, president of S.A.F.E. Engineering Inc., will be on
hand to discuss the legal side of machine safety. The panel will take
place on April 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The safety and technology panel, moderated by Manufacturing AUTOMATION
editor Mary Del Ciancio, will explore how new technologies are making a
difference in workers’ safety. Health and safety professionals will
have the chance to interact with leading technology experts – Bill
Valedis, president of Imperial Automation Training; Walter Veugen,
founder of Veugen Integrated Technologies; John Murphy, Machine Guarding and Safety Specialist, Vickers-Warnick Ltd; and Allen Rutherford, P.Eng,
Applications Engineer with Bosch Rexroth Canada – for insights on using
modern tools for safer machines. This session will take place on April
21, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
As part of the Industrial Accident Prevention Association’s (IAPA)
conference and trade show event, the MASC pavilion and exhibit area
will feature special hands-on demonstrations where leading suppliers of
machine automation safety and safeguarding will showcase their products
