JMP Engineering, Inc., a London, Ont.-based provider of industrial control systems and automation solutions, has acquired Automation Applications Inc, LLC (AAI), an industrial engineering and systems integrator located in Philadelphia, Pa. Details of the acquisition are not public.

AAI has 12 employees, all of whom will remain employees of JMP Engineering, under the direction of Rich Janowski, Philadelphia branch manager.

"AAI has an impressive and complimentary client base in several key markets, including chemical, petrochemical, food, pharmaceutical, consumer products and pulp and paper," said Scott Shawyer, president and CEO of JMP. "Their employees have an average 20 years field experience integrating DCS and PLC-based systems, and they are renowned for their specialized expertise in the fields of batch automation and industrial energy."

According to JMP VP, Paul Wilson, "We chose Pennsylvania because the industrial base matched with our core competencies and had good representation of the industries we serve. We look for markets that are growing, underserved or poorly served."

JMP has acquired several companies over the years. To date, the company has acquired Cougar Automation (Toronto, Ont.), Leading Edge Controls (San Antonio, Texas), Soft Design Automation (Toronto) and Automation Applications Inc. (Philadelphia Pa.).

"Growth is certainly one of our priorities," said Wilson. "We are always looking for opportunities to serve more customers locally, leveraging our corporate-wide expertise. Acquisitions are one of a few strategies we are executing on. Many of our customers have plants across North America, and having a branch-based system is of value to them."
