Manufacturing earnings see continued growth: StatsCan

Statistics Canada says average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $902.29 in September, down 0.5 per cent from August. But those in the manufacturing industry have still seen continued growth.

StatsCan also says that on a year-over-year basis, earnings were up 3.4 per cent.

That reflected a number of factors, including wage growth and changes in the composition of employment by industry as well as the average number of weekly hours worked.

Manufacturing, retail trade and professional, scientific and technical services all saw year-over-year growth that was above the national average.

For example, average manufacturing earnings were up 5.7 per cent to $1,026.45, those in retail rose 4.7 per cent to $530.10 and wages were up four per cent to $1,276.62 in professional, scientific and technical services.

Average weekly earnings were higher in every province. However wage growth was notably above the national average in both Newfoundland and Labrador and in Nova Scotia.
