A new drill rod manufacturing plant that is getting financial help from the federal and New Brunswick governments officially opened this weekend in Miramichi.
The two levels of government are helping Sunny Corner Enterprises Inc. acquire equipment for its new manufacturing facility at the Chatham Marine Wharf.
The provincial government is spending $500,000 through the Miramichi Regional Economic Development and Innovation Fund.
The federal government is giving the company a $1 million repayable contribution through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
New Brunswick’s energy and mines minister, Craig Leonard, says the money will help the plant establish itself in the mining sector.
The new plant was officially opened on Saturday and will make exploration drilling tools for Sandvik Mining, which creates 20 jobs.
