October 25, 2013 by The Canadian Press
Ten Canadian universities will share $52 million of federal and industry funding for new research and development projects on the automotive industry, with about half going to McMaster University.
Minister of State Greg Rickford announced that $30 million will come from the federal government’s Automotive Partnership Canada initiative and $22 million from industry and other partners.
Three projects at McMaster in Hamilton will get a total of $24.2 million for research on energy-efficient vehicles.
The McMaster projects will look at developing the next generation of electrified powertrains and components, the redesign of alloys used in manufacturing and the impact of using electrical cars in Canada.
