Kellogg’s unionized workers approve severance package

Unionized workers at a Kellogg’s plant in London, Ont., have voted to accept their severance packages ahead of the facility’s closure.

Nearly all of the 345 voting members of the BCTGM union voted 91 per cent in favour of accepting the packages, which Local 154G
president Bob Martin said included benefits and severance pay.

But Martin said the workers should be getting more from the company. Kellogg Co. announced last December that it would be closing the
90-year-old cereal plant by the end of this year, wiping out more than 500 full-time jobs.

The company said at the time that it was making cuts as part of an overall restructuring effort to streamline operations by 2018.

Martin said the union’s next move is to help workers with their pensions and to help them find new jobs.
