Dec. 1, 2014 – Last Wednesday, the IMP Aerospace manufacturing facility in northern Nova Scotia issued layoff notices to 20 employees, making it the third layoff of November.

However, The Canadian Press is reporting that the manager of the IMP Aerospace manufacturing facility in northern Nova Scotia said that despite the layoffs, the plant is not closing.

David Pearson said every effort is being made to find new work for the Amherst plant, but the company is facing an “extremely competitive international market with a lot of low-cost companies bidding on contracts.”

This latest layoff brings the total workforce to about 200.

According to Roy Gilroy, union president, company officials have indicated the reductions are a result of contracts expiring and nothing coming in behind them.
