Apr. 20, 2015 – There were luckily no injuries Friday evening as a massive fire broke out on the roof of Standen’s, located at 58 Avenue and 11 Street SE in Calgary, Alta. The fire created plumes of smoke which could be seen across the south side of the city.

“We are relieved that the roof fire was contained to the south side of building one where minimal manufacturing takes place. We will be able to keep producing and shipping product to our customers as the affect area is rebuilt,” said Hans van der Lann, Standen’s general manager, adding that he is proud of the efforts being made to keep business going as usual.

Standen’s is a manufacturer of leaf springs, agricultural components and axles for the transportation industry.

About 100 people were evacuated from the warehouse, according to Calgary Fire Department spokeswoman Carol Henke.

van der Laan commended the Calgary Fire Department saying, “The fire department’s response was immediate and they worked tirelessly to keep damage to a minimum. Part of our ability to maintain business as usual is owed to their quick and capable response.”

More than 450 people are employed by Standen in Calgary.
