May 26, 2015 – A recent RnRMarketResearch report finds that growing need for higher efficiency in plant operations will drive the global human machine interface (HMI) market in packaging, food and beverage, and automotive industries for the next four to five years.

The analysts forecast global HMI market will grow at a CAGR of 7.73 per cent over the period 2015-2019.

HMI systems are a combination of software and hardware that provide an interface between automated systems and humans by using HMI software or HMI panels. It helps operators interact with automated systems in vehicles and understand the plant floor automation process. HMIs are widely used in high-end vehicles and are expected to be introduced into low-cost vehicles over the coming years. They provide inputs and monitor, control, and check various parameters of control systems in vehicles.

According to the research report, there is a demand for reducing human interface and increasing real-time monitoring and process control to prevent damages to life and property. The use of automation systems reduces maintenance costs and machine downtime, and increase productivity by providing accurate operations information to improve the decision-making process it notes. Meanwhile, vendors are increasingly developing multi-touch panels for HMIs because of the increased implementation of smartphones and other touch devices.
