Jul. 7, 2015 – Omron Automation and Safety has expanded its family of safety controllers with a stand-alone version of the NX-series safety controllers that uses safety over EtherNet/IP for a “powerful, modular and easily commissioned safety controller that can be efficiently adapted to a wide range of safety applications,” it says. The expandable design promises a highly scalable solution, making it ideal for compact systems with just a few I/Os, as well as for larger applications that require up to 256 I/O points, notes Omron. According to the company, the unit’s inputs support direct connectivity to any kind of safety device: safety light curtains, scanners, interlocking devices, non-contact sensors, electromechanical switches, safety mats, safety bumpers, enabling switches and more. The system is configured with Sysmac Studio software using a special stand-alone safety version, or the full suite of automation software.
