ImageKUKA Controls announces its new Windows XP extension to VxWorks, VxWin 2.2. This progressive software extends Wind River VxWorks with Windows XP Embedded and allows both to reside concurrently on a single CPU. Using Windows XP Embedded as an extension to VxWorks eliminates the shortcomings and capitalizes on the advantages of each operating system, according to the company. VxWin extends the industry proven real-time capabilities of VxWorks adding the powerful features of Windows XP Embedded. System designers can deliver a very precise control system with an excellent human machine interface and virtually unlimited options data acquisition and analysis. Hardware component count is significantly reduced resulting in a significant increase in Mean Time Between Failure, MTBF. Because standard TCP/IP communications via shared memory is used for connecting to the Windows operating system, porting an existing VxWorks application is easily accomplished. Users also have the option to use the same VxWorks applications in an embedded system. Kuka Controls
