Oct. 28, 2016 – More than 200 students and community members came out to learn more about modern manufacturing and automation at Balluff’s second annual Manufacturing Day event in Florence, Ky., on October 7.
“Our purpose in hosting this visit is to help share the wonders of advanced manufacturing technologies and educate students on the possible career opportunities available in the manufacturing market,” said Tony Canonaco, Balluff president and CEO. “We hope everyone that attended walked away with an understanding of how important manufacturing is for the people of the U.S. and especially for our home state of Kentucky.”
“As a part of the manufacturing industry we struggle and we see our customers struggle with a growing skills gap,” added Will Healy III, strategic marketing manager for Balluff.
The event included several hands-on activities and games to provide first-hand experience for kids and adults to learn how sensors and automation work to improve manufacturing outcomes. The Balluff Demo Van, equipped with automation solutions, also toured the company’s semi-automated warehouse and electronic assembly facility.
“It was educational, informative, and fun! The best of Manufacturing Day was my son being able to experience first-hand the importance of STEM [science, technology, engineering, and math],” said Shannan Topolski, who attended the festivities.
Manufacturing Day is an annual initiative that aims to change the perception of today’s manufacturing environment by giving industry players an opportunity to demonstrate advanced manufacturing technology to students, parents, educators and community members.
