Sep. 29, 2017 – French building products company Soprema will build a new manufacturing plant in Sherbrooke, Que., where it plans to make extruded polystyrene insulation panels.

The $42.8-million site will become the company’s fourth manufacturing facility in the province and is expected to create 56 new jobs in the area.

Both the federal and provincial governments have pledged considerable investments to land the new investment. Ottawa’s CED has granted the company $8.5 million in assistance for the project, while the Quebec government will invest $1.5 million as well as grant the company a $5 million loan.

“This is the first plant in North America to manufacture extruded polystyrene panels, and we are proud that the company has chosen Quebec, and the Estrie region, to carry out this major project. The initiative will likely have positive economic benefits, specifically as part of exports and job creation, and as concerns the global reach of Quebec’s expertise in the production of insulation products,” said Dominique Anglade, Minister of the Economy, Science and Innovation and Minister Responsible for the Digital Strategy.
