Bosch Rexroth EFC 5610 frequency converter now enhanced with Safe Torque Off

Apr. 12, 2018 – The upgraded EFC 5610 with STO Safety by Bosch Rexroth offers up to Cat. 4/PLe, SIL3 safety levels for safety relevant applications now over the complete power range.
Safe Torque Off (STO) is a function used to prevent unexpected motor movement while connected to power during an emergency situation. Bosch Rexroth says the scalable EFC 5610 can be integrated into a range of automation environments with “simple commissioning and open interfaces.” The newly enhanced EFC 5610 frequency converter (VFD) now provides STO functionality from 0.4 kW (0.5 hp) to 90 kW (125 hp). The unit also offers vector control for an optimal torque curve, says Bosch Rexroth, adding that the vector control can be parameterized and chosen over the standard U/f technology mode. Parameterization can be done through the operator display panel or via free downloadable IndraWorks Ds software tool by use of a PC connected via USB cable to the engineering port of the EFC.
In heavy duty mode, the overload capacity can be maintained at up to 150 per cent for 60 seconds, says the company. The unit also offers a start torque of 200 per cent at 0.5 Hz. from 5.5 kW (7.5 hp) devices can optionally be parameterized for Normal Duty mode (ND), providing higher continuous power levels at 120 per cent overload, it notes.
Using an option module, the EFC 5610 can be extended by a Multi-Ethernet interface with Sercos, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT and Modbus/TCP or fieldbus interfaces such as PROFIBUS or CANopen and can be integrated into all common automation solutions.
