April 13, 2018 by Manufacturing AUTOMATION
Apr. 12, 2018 – The federal and Ontario governments have announced an investment of up to $70 million toward Sanofi Pasteur Limited’s $500-million project to help establish what they say will be one of the world’s most advanced vaccine manufacturing facilities.
Sanofi Pasteur is the vaccine division of Sanofi, a global healthcare company and vaccine manufacturer.
The new 150,000-square-foot Bulk Biologics Facility, at the Connaught Campus in Toronto, Ont., is estimated to double the output of its vaccines by 2023 and launch the Canadian researched and developed pertussis – or whooping cough – vaccine into 30 new international markets.
Through this project, nearly 1,250 jobs will be created or maintained, says the company.
The FedDev Ontario contribution of $20 million is a repayable contribution through the Advanced Manufacturing Fund. The Government of Ontario is investing $50 million through the Jobs and Prosperity Fund.
