Industrial automation companies land on Canada’s Top SMEs list

April 22, 2019 – The new annual ranking of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers includes two industrial automation companies.

D&D Automation, a systems integrator in Stratford, Ontario, and Javelin Technologies, a developer of 3D design, automation and additive manufacturing solutions, both landed on the list.

Now in its sixth year, Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers (SMEs), published by Mediacorp, recognizes the SMEs that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies. Employers are evaluated using criteria such as physical workplace, atmosphere, benefits, employee communications, training, and community involvement. The results were recently published in a special supplement to The Globe and Mail.

“The companies that make this list are fast-growing employers that need to innovate rapidly,” says Richard Yerema, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project in a release. “Some have doubled in size over the past year, but all of them are looking for new ways to attract the best and brightest employees so they can keep growing.”

D&D Automation, established in 1992, made the list for its profit-sharing and generous referral bonuses for employees who recruit candidates from their personal networks (up to $5,000 for successful hires). The company also supports local and national charitable initiatives each year and encourages employees to give back to the community with paid time off to volunteer and matching employee donations of up to $500.

Among other things, D&D offers matching RSP contributions, pays up to 100 per cent of health care plan premiums, offers flexible work hours and tuition subsidies, and recognizes performance with bonuses, on-the-spot rewards, peer-to-peer recognition awards, and tailored and unique rewards (i.e. travel).

Javelin Technologies, established in 1997, merged with Cimetrix Solutions in 2018 to further its additive manufacturing offering and services nearly 6,000 customers in every sector of the Canadian economy. Javelin supports a number of local and national charitable organizations each year and encourages employees to give back to the community with paid time off to volunteer and matching employee donations.
