#NewRosie campaign honours women in manufacturing
Nov. 16, 2016 - In an effort to help break down stereotypes and encourage more women to pursue a career in manufacturing, Skill Scout is running a new digital video campaign that highlights female leaders in the industry.
“One of the biggest barriers to attracting women to the field is a misconception about the nature of the work and environment. To overcome this misperception and recruit talented female candidates, organizations and businesses are working together to showcase the female role models in the industry,” according to a statement from the Chicago, Ill.-based startup.
The #NewRosie campaign features stories on how various women got started in the industry and their advice for girls and young women considering a manufacturing career.
“Our work at Skill Scout has given us the opportunity to come across some of the most incredible leaders, many of them women. While the Rosie of the 1940s still inspires today, the concept for the #NewRosie campaign is to showcase how far manufacturing has come since then,” said Elena Valentine, CEO of Skill Scout.
Erica Wiegel, president and CEO of Aro Metal Stamping, is a featured #NewRosie.
“One stereotype that women face is that we’re unqualified, and once we get going, and people see that our designs and our ideas are actually as good as theirs and maybe even better, the stereotype gets washed away pretty quickly. From the shop floor to the president, women prove that we can do it all, and I think that we have done it very well. Manufacturing has given me my life,” she says in her video.
