YMCA of Okanagan receives $800K for essential skills development

Aug. 21, 2017 – The YMCA of Okanagan, B.C.’s Jumpstart Employment Essentials Penticton project will receive more than $800,000 from the Government of Canada’s Skills Link program.

The investment, according to the government, will help 108 youth overcome barriers to employment or going back to school.

Through the Jumpstart Employment Essentials Penticton project, youth will develop essential skills, including communications, critical thinking, problem solving, improving résumés and cover letters, job searching, job interview skills, financial management and workplace safety. They will also be able to gain work experience in a range of sectors, including light manufacturing.
