FCA US to retool Illinois, Ohio plants to support Jeep brand growth

Jul. 26, 2016 – FCA US says it will invest more than $1 billion in its assembly plants in Illinois and Ohio to retool them to support the future growth of the Jeep brand, creating an estimated 1,000 new jobs as a result.

According to a statement from the automaker, the Belvidere Assembly Plant (Ill.) will see $350 million to produce the Jeep Cherokee, which will move from its current production location in Toledo, Ohio, next year.

Meanwhile, $700 million will be invested in the Toledo Assembly Complex (Ohio) North plant to produce the next generation Jeep Wrangler. The manufacturer says it will make an announcement regarding the future of the South plant at a later date.

The Belvidere plant will see roughly 300 new jobs, while the Toledo facility will see about 700, said FCA US.
