Dec. 13, 2016 – Canadian Solar has opened what it says is Brazil’s largest capacity solar module manufacturing facility.

Located in Sorocaba, Brazil, the new plant has the capacity to produce 380 megawatts of photovoltaic (PV) modules a year.

“Our new state-of-the-art facility is already having a positive impact on Brazil’s economy through the jobs created, investment made in the local economy, and our help in the promotion and further development of the country’s renewable energy industry,” said Dr. Shawn Qu, chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar.

According to the panel maker, the new plant will allow the company to build modules for its 390 MW Brazil pipeline, as well as meet future demand.

“We now gain a powerful competitive advantage with our new local content facility, which we will leverage in Brazil, one of the world’s most attractive and fastest growing solar markets.”
