Aug. 21, 2017 – Solar panel manufacturer Heliene says it is on track to become more productive and competitive, and grow its business thanks to a Government of Canada repayable contribution of more than $199,000.

The investment will help the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario-based company acquire and install a fully automated soldering machine, as well as provide related staff training. According to Heliene, the upgrade will help maintain the jobs of more than 70 people who produce products for solar project developers, engineering and construction companies, and commercial utility customers.

The funding is provided through the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario’s (FedNor’s) Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

This past June, Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) announced an investment of $1.45 million in Heliene to conduct research and development of smart-grid technologies.
