September 5, 2018 – Cascades has announced its intention to close two sheet plants in Barrie (Jellco) and Peterborough, Ontario by December 31, 2018.

The company says the plan is part of its ongoing efforts to reorganize and optimize its corrugated packaging platform. Production will be deployed to other Cascades facilities in the province.

“This decision will enable us to better align our existing production capacity and to improve service for our valued customers,” said Charles Malo, president and chief operating officer of Cascades Containerboard Packaging.

The closures will affect approximately 65 employees, who may be transferred to other business units where possible.
