Feds invest $3.9M for two Ont. manufacturers to adopt automation

The federal government is investing $3.9 million for two Ontario manufacturers, Kumi Canada and York Metal Products, to scale up and automate processes.

Kumi Canada is a supplier of injection molding and assembly products for the automotive sector.

With $2 million in FedDev Ontario support and an additional $15.7 million in private sector investment, Kumi Canada will expand its Bradford, Ont. facility by 60,000 square feet, install advanced energy-efficient equipment, increase production capacity by 40 per cent and create 60 new jobs in the region.

The Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things-compatible equipment will allow Kumi Canada to automate and integrate its processes, reducing costs and energy consumption.

York Metal Products, a metal fabricator, will use $1.9 million in FedDev Ontario support and an additional $10.8 million in private sector investment to purchase advanced automation and robotic equipment.

The funding will help to scale up production of its proprietary one-piece metal exhaust emission parts for the automotive sector and create 32 jobs in Concord.
