Omron Canada announces three new hires

August 20, 2018 – Omron Canada, the industrial automation solution specialist, has made three new appointments across the country, with two new account managers in Western Canada and a new safety services specialist based in Toronto. 

Michael Joaquin (below, middle) is the new safety services specialist, reporting directly to Brett Lupton, sales manager for advanced sensing and safety. He’ll be responsible for Omron’s strategic and tactical actions to increase sales within all of Omron’s key industries, which include automotive, food, beverage, packaging, pharmaceutical, as well as infrastructure and government.

Joaquin holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Ryerson University, and is a professional engineer with over 17 years of career experience. He has held in-house engineering, project management and engineering management roles in the automotive manufacturing sector, and for the past five years has worked as a consultant with a practice focused on pre-start health and safety reviews, HAZOP, hazard and risk assessment, design and implementation of safeguards, and Arc Flash assessment. Joaquin has also been a member of the technical committee for CSA Z432-16 “Safeguarding of Machinery.”

Sean Garrity (above, right) takes the position of territory account manager for British Columbia, reporting directly to Josh Yates, the regional sales manager for Western Canada. Garrity will be responsible for building relationships and exploring opportunities to collaborate on projects with end users, EPCs, system integrators and OEMs. Sean’s background in consulting combined with a his connection to the engineering community in BC will help to raise Omron’s industrial automation market presence on the West Coast.

Garrity holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Previously, he spent over five years working as a consulting engineer specializing in controls for power generation, public safety systems and bulk material handling. He has experience in design, pre-operational verification, commissioning and troubleshooting at facilities across Canada. Garrity is also the chair for the IEEE Canada Young Professionals committee and sits on the steering committee for the BCBC NEXT Leaders program.

Finally, Bashar Abuhamdan (above, left) has been appointed account manager for Southern Alberta, also reporting directly to Josh Yates. Abuhamdan will be responsible for managing Omron’s end users, EPCs, system integrators and OEMs. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a MBA from University of Leicester, UK, and he brings to Omron over 22 years of career experience in sales and marketing with multinational organizations including 3M, Schneider Electric, Honeywell and Lloyd’s Register within Canada and overseas markets. Abuhamdan has held senior roles in sales and marketing in various sectors e.g. electrical, construction, engineering consulting services, channel partner management and oil and gas.

For nearly three years, he held the role of business development manager for Lloyd’s Register in the oil and gas engineering consultancy services in Saudi Arabia, focused on developing the business in health, safety and environment study, HAZOP, HAZID and risk-based inspections. Prior to this role he was with Honeywell Limited for eight years and based out of Vancouver, where he was responsible for fire and gas detection sales for construction, oil and gas sectors covering the BC and AB market.
