Ontario company launches full production additive and advanced manufacturing centre

Aug. 12, 2014 – Burloak Engineered Solutions Inc. has announced it will invest $11.5 million over five years to establish what it calls Canada’s first full production additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing centre.

The facility, based in Dundas, Ont., will feature the first production DMLS (metal printing) system in Canada, along with SLS (plastic) and state-of-the-art subtractive systems.

In support of this business plan, the company concluded a private equity investment in July.

The focus of the investment will be to serve customers in the aerospace, defence, energy, medical, architectural, automotive and industrial manufacturing sectors with prototype, development and production-level additive manufacturing services and engineered solutions.

The company has begun commissioning the first round of machines, which is made up of equipment from EOS (SLS and DMLS 3D printers) and Elliott Matsuura (five-, four- and three-axis, machining and CMM systems), and expects to begin production in mid-August 2014.

As part of its strategy, the company is rebranding under the corporate name Burloak Technologies Inc., with two wholly owned subsidiary companies — Burloak Advanced Manufacturing Inc. and Burloak Engineered Solutions Inc. The Advanced Manufacturing operations will provide the additive and advanced subtractive services, while Burloak Engineered Solutions will provide metrology, onsite inspection, alignment, 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD and tooling services.

The company has opened a new facility in Dundas, Ont., which will become its corporate and primary manufacturing base.
