Jan. 29 2016 – As part of its cost-cutting campaign announced last year, Caterpillar is planning to close five plants and about 670 jobs in Illinois and several other U.S. states, according to The Associated Press.

At this time, about 230 of the affected jobs are office and production workers in East Peoria, Ill., where Caterpillar says it’s consolidating some manufacturing and transferring some work to outside contractors,” says The Associated Press.

The company says it is also closing factories and cutting about 250 jobs in Thomasville, Ga., and Santa Fe, N.M., although it added that it plans to consolidate some operations and add about 160 jobs at an existing plant in Pontiac, Ill.

Caterpillar currently has about 106,000 worldwide.
