Metal sheet manufacturer receives nearly $1.5M from feds for new equipment

August 20, 2019 – An Ontario manufacturer and distributor of perforated metal sheets and plates used in noise reduction, construction and filtration is receiving nearly $1.5 million in funding from the federal government to install new equipment. 

Wellington Perforated Sheet & Plate Inc. (WPSP), located in Fergus, Ontario, will install a new 500-tonne advanced perforating press with a complete finishing line, which will cut production lead-time in half. The addition of a new degreasing line will also allow the company to reduce its environmental impact, and a new laser cutter will increase capabilities and allow WPSP to reach new markets.

As a result of this project, the company will be able to scale up its in-house production capabilities and diversify its product offerings to expand to new markets and better meet growing demand, specifically in the agriculture, architecture and mining sectors. Additionally, this project will support the creation of up to five full-time skilled manufacturing jobs in Fergus, and will lead to increased supply chain spending across Ontario.

The funding was awarded through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). FedDev Ontario’s repayable contribution of up to nearly $1.5 million will leverage more than $2.8 million in private sector and other investment toward the total project cost of nearly $4.3 million.

Established in 1995, Wellington Perforated Sheet & Plate manufactures various types of perforated metal sheets and plates such as mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Perforated metals are used in the noise reduction and silencer industry, such as in airports, and are also used in construction, filtration and food processing equipment.
