CME SMART Green Fund targets GHG reduction projects

Nov. 1, 2016 - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) has announced the CME SMART Green Fund, a new government grant that covers up to 50 per cent of expenses for projects that aim to reduce manufacturing-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit produced, either through the purchase of innovative machinery or process improvements.

Signed Contribution Agreements must be received by CME prior to any project-related deposits are initiated for future work.

The details:


• Amount
Assessments will be covered at up to 50 per cent to a maximum of $10,000, while implementations are covered up to 50 per cent or $200,000 per facility; up to five facilities to a maximum of $500,000 per applicant.

• Eligible applicants
Applicants must be Ontario manufacturing facilities producing less than 25,000 tonnes of GHG annually, and cannot be participating in the Ontario Cap & Trade Program. Facilities must also have at least 10 employees and be in operation for at least three years.

• Eligible projects
Projects must directly reduce GHG emissions and/or intensity related to the production process, including those that improve energy efficiency and productivity. GHG reductions can be considered on a per unit and gross level.

• Timeline
Applicants will have one year from the date of the contribution agreement between the applicant and CME to complete the project. Projects must be completed no later than Dec. 31, 2018.
