Dana Parmenter, CSA Group

For the last 11 months, Canadian manufacturers have been busy producing personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used in the fight against COVID-19.

There have been many innovative solutions along the way—but who regulates all of this newly manufactured gear?

The new episode of Machine Language features an interview with Dana Parmenter, vice-president, industrial at CSA Group, a global organization for standards development, testing, inspection and certification for a range of products.

CSA recently opened a dedicated lab in Toronto for Canadian manufacturers to get their PPE tested and certified by CSA for sale in Canada.

“The pandemic acted as a catalyst that highlighted numerous supply chain challenges for medical PPE,” Parmenter says in the episode. “This need isn’t just specific to COVID.”

Parmenter goes on to discuss why Canada needed its own PPE testing facility, the process for manufacturers to certify their PPE, and things manufacturers should keep in mind as they ready their products for certification.
