Ontario food processor receives $100K to improve efficiency, capacity

Aug. 16, 2016 – The Ontario and federal governments say they have committed more than $44 million to almost 850 projects for food, beverage and processor businesses through Growing Forward 2 cost-shared funding assistance.

One of their most recent investments went to Treasure Mills, an Aurora, Ont.-based food processor, who received $100,000 to install automated baking and washing equipment, and improve refrigeration and drainage systems in its facility.

“Treasure Mills is pleased to have the support of both the federal and provincial governments through Growing Forward 2. This investment has helped us to implement important technical improvements at our Aurora facility, which are helping us to better serve our customers and grow our business,” said Robert Johnson, president of Treasure Mills.

According to the company, the upgraded equipment has reduced production costs by 10 per cent and increased product output by 200 per cent.

“Ontario’s food and beverage processing sector is important to Canada’s economy. Investments like these help meet market demand and drive growth and success in the agri-food sector. That translates to good jobs, growth in the economy, and a strong middle class,” said Leona Alleslev, MP for Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill.
