July 30, 2018 – Balluff has released a new family of safety light curtains with IO-Link connectivity. These devices can be connected directly to the Balluff Safety Over IO-Link module.

Users can choose from finger-, hand- or body-detection versions, covering protective heights from 150 mm (six inches) to 1,800 mm (71 inches). These safety light curtains have a compact, robust housing and meet the highest levels of safety required by EN ISO 13849 (PLe) and IEC/EN 61508/62061 (SIL 3).

Balluff safety light curtains can be connected to safety relays, programmable logic modules or safety controllers, and are plug-and-play with the Balluff safety IO-Link I/O module. They’re wired using standardized M12 plug connections and off-the-shelf non-shielded cables.

The safety light curtains can be applied at point-of-operation guarding of machine openings, area guarding of machine and workcell perimeters. Typical machine applications include robot cells, presses, assembly machines, machine tools, winders and palletizers.
