Krohne, Inc.’s Optisonic 6400 portable ultrasonic flowmeter for liquids measures the flow velocity, the current volumetric flow, and a variety of diagnostic values. The flowmeter is compact and easy to install, according to the company. Users simply attach the sensor rail to the pipe and plug in the cables to the handheld electronics, set up a few parameters, and begin reading instantaneous flow results. The device stores the readings in the integrated memory for data logging. Data can also be transferred via a USB stick to external evaluation systems for further review.

The Optisonic 6400 is comprised of a compact evaluation unit and one or two rails, each equipped with two ultrasonic sensors. The rails are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate different tube diameters, from 1.27 to 406.4 cm. The rail is simply attached to the pipeline to be measured using fabric belts or steel straps. A second rail is used for dual measurements on the same pipe or a second pipe. The entire measuring system is packaged in a practical suitcase with wheels.

The Optisonic 6400 is powered either by an integrated battery with 14 hours running time, or line powered, with an adapter supplied. The readings are shown on a large colour graphic LCD. The compact design and ease of installation make the Optisonic 6400 the perfect measuring device for temporary flow monitoring in numerous applications. Thanks to its mobility, the device is equally suited to comparative measurements on stationary measuring equipment or for use as a short-term replacement for faulty in-line devices.
