Webinar recap: Testing e-stop systems

Our speaker was Doug Nix of Compliance Insight Consulting Jun. 22, 2015 – Most machinery is equipped with an emergency stop, but unlike the automatic guarding systems on those machines, the emergency stop system is rarely used. Large machines and assembly systems may have tens of emergency stop devices scattered over a large area.
These devices can fail in ways that can’t be easily detected by automatic diagnostics, if present. Many older machines have no automatic diagnostic functions, making this situation even worse. When these systems fail unexpectedly, the results can be catastrophic.
Last Friday, Manufacturing AUTOMATION presented a FREE webinar, titled Testing Emergency Stop Systems, to help address these concerns.
Our speaker Douglas Nix, C.E.T., SM-IEEE provided attendees with the basis for setting up manual testing of these critical systems, ensuring that they will function when needed. The webinar also touched on requirements from Canadian, U.S. and international standards, and discussed the functional safety aspects related to testing.
