January 4, 2019 – Industrial automation companies Rockwell Automation and Emerson have both taken top honours in the second annual IoT Breakthrough Awards, which recognize the leading companies, technologies and products in the global Internet of Things (IoT) market.

IoT Breakthrough, an independent organization, runs the IoT Breakthrough Awards program. Categories include Industrial and Enterprise IoT, Smart City technology, Connected Home and Home Automation, and Connected Car, among others. The 2018 program attracted more than 3,000 nominations from companies all over the world.

Rockwell Automation was named Overall IoT Company of the Year for its IoT solutions for control and information.

“[This] was a banner year for the entire IoT industry as we continue to move in the direction of real deployment and monetization of IoT systems, with the true value of IoT becoming abundantly clear,” says James Johnson, managing director at IoT Breakthrough. “Rockwell Automation set itself apart this year with an impressive combination of innovative and proven industrial IoT solutions, partnerships and investments.”

Emerson won the Industrial IoT Company of the Year category for its work with manufacturers in the oil and gas, power, chemical and life sciences industries.

“In this new world of Industry 4.0, it becomes increasingly difficult for IIoT suppliers to stand out in the crowded market,” says Johnson. “Emerson has successfully demonstrated a level of innovation and success in the industrial IoT market for a second consecutive year to bring home our Industrial IoT Company of the Year designation.”

All nominations for the IoT Breakthrough Awards were evaluated by an independent panel of experts within the IoT industry, with the winning products and companies selected based on a variety of criteria, including most innovative and technologically advanced products and services.

Among the other industrial winners were Cree Inc.’s SmartCast Intelligence Platform for Industrial IoT Innovation of the Year, and MachineMetrics for Smart Manufacturing Solution of the Year.

Intel, Samsung and Dell all took home IoT Partner & Ecosystem awards, and Cisco, FogHorn Systems and SAP took home IoT Leadership awards.
