Ferretti selects Siemens software to optimize yacht design and production

Mar. 26, 2017 – Ferretti Group, a designer, builder and seller of motor yachts and pleasure vessels, has selected solutions from Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) software business to help optimize the design and production of its Ferretti Yachts and CRN brand.

Established in Italy, Ferretti Group will deploy Teamcenter software, a PLM system, and NX software, an integrated solution for computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE). Teamcenter and NX serve as the foundation of Siemens’ marine industry solution for the digitalization of ship design, which can help Ferretti Group reduce time-to-market and lower production costs while maintaining product quality. Ferretti Group will also leverage the Fibersim portfolio to further enhance its composites design and production processes.
 
After a thorough evaluation involving the major PLM market vendors, Ferretti Group said it selected Siemens PLM Software for its ability to collect the product design data from different PLM players in one open platform. This decision is in line with the new business strategy of the Italian Group who has undertaken a series of investments aimed at the production of new boats.

Ferretti Yachts and CRN — together with the other Ferretti Group brands Riva, Pershing, Itama, Mochi Craft and Custom Line — are on the cutting edge of the nautical sector due to their constant research of innovative products and process solutions. Ferretti Yachts produces fiberglass flybridge vessels from 45 to 96 feet, while CRN is specialized in the design and construction of fully-custom steel and aluminum yachts up to 100 metres in length.
 
To maintain its completive edge, Ferretti Group is replacing its legacy CAD software with NX to establish a fully integrated 3D product development process for CRN and Ferretti Yachts. Both of these brands will use Teamcenter to provide all pertinent employees with immediate access to the information needed for rapid assessment, decision-making and re-use of best practices.
