Ottawa, Ont. – Despite gloomy reports to the contrary, a new report has found that Canadian manufacturing sales doubled expectations in June.

According to Statistics Canada, manufacturing sales advanced 2.1 per cent to $52.5 billion. The surge was caused by rising shipments of energy products, automobiles and metals.
The largest contributor to the total gains came from petroleum and coal product manufacturers, with a 6.4 per cent advance mirroring the 6.2 per cent rise in prices for the month, the federal agency said.
But increases were widespread, with 14 of 21 manufacturing industries, representing 81 per cent of total sales, reporting gains.
StatsCan also found that for the second consecutive month, nine provinces reported gains in sales, with only British Columbia posting a decrease.
