Dec. 22, 2017 - Winpak Ltd. is upgrading a Winnipeg production plant with a US$40-million expansion project, boosting its output of biaxially oriented polyamide, or BOPA film, at its majority-owned subsidiary, American Biaxis Inc.

The film is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Winpak currently produces 11,000 metres tonnes of BOPA each year at American Biaxis. The expansion includes work on both the currently facility and the purchase of new equipment. The Canadian packaging company, which makes packing materials as well as related packaging machines, says the investment will boost the plant’s capacity to 14,000 metric tonnes of BOPA annually.

The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2019.
