HP announces HP Metal Jet for high-volume 3D printing of metal parts

September 17, 2018 - HP has released the HP Metal Jet, which uses 3D printing technology for high-volume manufacturing of production-grade metal parts.

The company says the printer provides up to 50 times more productivity than other 3D printing methods and at a lower cost. Part of the launch is the Metal Jet Production Service, which by early 2019 will allow customers to quickly iterate new 3D part designs and produce final parts in large quantities.

HP Metal Jet is a voxel-level binder jetting technology with a bed size of 430 x 320 x 200mm, four times the nozzle redundancy, two times the printbars, and significantly less binder by weight.

HP Metal Jet will start with stainless-steel finished parts, delivering isotropic properties that meet or exceed ASTM and MPIF Standards.

So far, GKN Powder Mellaurgy and Parmatech are using the HP Metal Jet, and other large companies including Volkswagen and Wilo have placed orders. Commercial HP Metal Jet solutions will begin shipping in 2020 to early customers and with broad availability in 2021. Reservations for customers to pre-order HP Metal Jet systems are available.
