Gay Lea to buy Hewitt’s Dairy

Oct. 20, 2014 – Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Ltd., an Ontario dairy co-operative, says it has reached an agreement to buy Hewitt’s Dairy of Hagersville, Ont. The purchase price was not disclosed.

The company employs 65 people and specializes in the processing of milk, cream, yogurt, ice cream and a complete line of goat milk products.

The deal is expected to close November 1.

Gay Lea Foods is Ontario’s largest dairy co-operative, with 1,200 members, 835 employees and annual sales of some $560 million under several brands, including Gay Lea, Nordica, Ivanhoe and Salerno.
