Endress+Hauser has released a Bluetooth upgrade to provide remote access for commissioning and monitoring of its radar level measurement instruments.

The upgrade is available for all FMR5x, FMR6x and FMP5x series devices with up-to-date HART 7 firmware. These instruments are used for continuous non-contact level measurement in a wide range of applications.

The FMP5x series, for example, used for purposes such as assuring measuring for dry run protection and for providing overfill protection and range monitoring.

The Bluetooth upgrade consists of Endress+Hauser’s Bluetooth module BT10, which is inserted in the CDI slot of an installed base in the field, and Endress+Hauser’s SmartBlue App, available via an app on a standard smartphone or tablet.

Installation of the module is a three-step procedure that doesn’t require special expertise or tools.

Bluetooth has a read range of up to 10 metres, so employees can generate readings from radar instruments – especially those located in hazardous or difficult-to-access places – from a safe distance.

Data transmission via the Bluetooth module is highly secure and certified as such.

Endress+Hauser uses the secure PAKE algorithm for encryption, the same class of algorithm used with German ID cards.
