Apr. 13, 2018 – Frulact Canada has established a new 58,000-square-foot research and development and food processing facility in Kingston, Ont., which will serve as the company’s North American base and first facility in Canada.

Established in 1987, the Frulact Group is a Portuguese food processor specializing in added-value ingredients, mainly custom fruit and vegetable preparations, for the food and beverage industry.

To help support the new facility, the federal government, through FedDev Ontario, is contributing up to $4.5 million from its Investing in Business Growth and Productivity initiative and the Government of Ontario, through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, is investing up to $1.5 million. The funds will go toward securing new manufacturing equipment, laboratory technology, specialty storage containers and staff training, as well as construction and equipment costs.

“The Kingston facility is an important and exciting milestone in Frulact’s global growth as we expand our presence in North American markets,” said João Miranda, CEO of Frulact Canada. “Between the skilled team we are building in Kingston and the industry-leading technology and production equipment supported by today’s announcement, we have a world-class facility to offer our customers the very best in innovative ingredients for the food and beverage industry.”

Located in Kingston’s Cataraqui Estates Business Park, the facility is expected to add up to 55 new permanent full-time jobs in the area.
