Top talent awarded at Skills Canada National Competition 2016

Jun. 20, 2016 – Congratulations to the winners of the 22nd Skills Canada National Competition, the “only national multi-trade and technology event of its kind for young students and apprentices in the country.” Over the course of two days, competitors from provinces and territories across Canada were tested and evaluated based on industry standards. The organization says more than 200 medals were awarded to champions in six skilled trade or technology sectors.

“The goal of this annual competition is to recognize the excellence of young Canadians in the skilled trades and technologies,” said Shaun Thorson, CEO of Skills/Compétences Canada. “We would like to congratulate all of the competitors for their accomplishments; they represent the future of our country and of our economy. We also want to thank and acknowledge the ongoing support from the Government of Canada and our many sponsors for working with us to ensure that there is a bright future for Canada’s skilled trade and technology workforce.”

This is also a qualifying year for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, and prospects for Team Canada were announced at the closing ceremony. According to the organization, the students will have the opportunity to qualify to be a part of global competition.
