More than 300 people, including the Honourable Brad Duguid, Ontario’s Minister of Energy, gathered on June 23 to celebrate the opening of one of Canada’s newest manufacturers – Eclipsall Energy Corp.

Eclipsall manufactures solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at its new Scarborough location, and estimates that about 100 new jobs will be created when the company is in full production by late summer of this year. The 120,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 5900 Finch Avenue East will house all of the company’s operations, and includes additional room for expansion.

During its grand opening ceremony, Eclipsall also announced that it is entering a long-term partnership with an international solar development company to manufacture approximately 400 MW of PV modules for solar projects across North America over the next five years. The Eclipsall expansion is expected to create an additional 200 jobs for the local Toronto economy.

“This is a milestone for the Eclipsall team,” said Les Lyster, CEO of Eclipsall. “The Ontario government has put the necessary framework in place to support and foster the province’s solar energy sector. Certainly, it is the major factor in the creation of Eclipsall Energy. We are excited to have the Minister take part in our grand opening ceremony and to officially start production of our solar panels for the Ontario market.”

“Ontario’s shift toward clean energy is creating thousands of jobs and attracting billions of dollars of investment for Ontarians,” the Honourable Brad Duguid said at the grand opening. “It is also a key part of Ontario’s plan to replace dirty coal, clean up the air we breathe and build a healthier future for generations to come.”

Ontario’s solar manufacturing sector is ramping quickly to meet the market demand prompted by the provincial government’s feed-in tariff program.
